Review of Queen’s - Accident & Emergency
25th April 2024

All staff were wonderful and I could see they were under pressure. However, the communication was poor, I had to answer the same questions over and over again, and then the result I received was helpful but the follow up was awful.

Suggested improvements
My paperwork was lost which meant I've missed out on booking a CT scan as advised by the doctor who saw me. There is no record of my visit on my records and the doctor I spoke to had said he was going to book me in but didn't. So now I'm two weeks into my diagnosis and have just been left to deal with it after the antibiotics ran out.

I am on chemotherapy. Need isolation. Tried to put me in a cubicle with five other people with chairs one foot apart. Told me I had no choice so had to refuse. So put on corner of walk way

Suggested improvements
You could make staff aware of the red chemo card we have to carry and make them understand we are are very low in our immune system.

My GP sent me to A&E. Triage went great. I was then sat in the waiting room for six hours. When I went to ask how much longer I'd have to wait, an A&E sister rang up to the medical team I was sent to see to be told the medical team had been advised I'd gone home when I was in fact sitting in waiting room all the time. A member of medical team came down promptly and gave me results of additional blood test GP had sent for for in the middle of the waiting room, no privacy or chance to discuss anything. Thankfully All was OK and I was sent home.

Suggested improvements
. No one came out of a&e to see if I was there or not. Not encouraged to go into unit from waiting room to chase up even though in hindsight I should have gone in 4 hours earlier. Poor communication fron staff to advise the process of how they deal with patients, you go here, there, then this and then that and if it no work like that in a time frame you the patient should do this.

I wait for 15 hour before treatment start and then 3 hours After I discharge altogether 18 hour I have to sit on a chair and I had Vertigo and couldn't stand up or walk I saw some very old patients they were over 85 and they was waiting for 15 to 18 hours

Suggested improvements
You can give a time to elder people (who are not in serious situation)to come back when there turn comes.because it's very hard for them to wait such a long time on chair one lady she was over 80 she was on wheel chair and waited 15 hours.

The waiting times are very poor especially if in a lot of pain & uncomfortable. Asked multiple times for some for of pain relief & had to wait 4.5 hours to receive any.

Suggested improvements
All plug sockets have been removed so keeping in contact with loved ones who are worried doesn't help. Also rock hard seats that are not comfortable especially if the waiting times are 17+ hours for a cancer patient in a lot of pain.

Where do I begin, most nurses were nice but some were horrible. They took 3 times to get blood from my veins. The first nurse was so horrible at her job she missed my veins 2 times and the last time she went digging inside my arm, making me almost pass out and I got so dizzy. There was no rooms so I had to sit on this chair thing for TEN hours!! Can you imagine how painful it was not to mention I was in pain this one nurse was so bad she literally got annoyed at me for asking when they will get back to me after taking my third blood test. Just ridiculous and they still didn’t find anything.

Suggested improvements
Maybe get some rooms that has beds in them and get some nurses that are good at their job oh god and these “doctors” more like a joke I wonder where they got their diploma from.
